- Carer’s Allowance:
If you’re spending at least 35 hours a week caring for someone else or a family member, and you earn less than £110 a week, you may qualify for Carer’s Allowance. If the person you are caring for is claiming a benefit due to their illness or disability, it is worth making a claim as you may be entitled to topping up your income with other benefits.
- Disability/Sickness Benefit:
If you are currently disabled, have a long-term or terminal health condition, you may be entitled to Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance. If you are not claiming and have a disability, we recommend you enquire about this benefit.
- Universal Credit:
Universal Credit is a new type of benefit in your area, which merges together and is replacing six existing benefits such as Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Child Tax Credit, Working Tax Credit and Housing Benefit. It is a new system based on a single monthly payment transferred directly into your bank account. At present, It is designed to support low income, out of work or unemployed families. If you’re working and claiming Universal Credit, then there are no limits to how many hours a week you can be working and claiming, but instead, your amount will gradually reduce as you earn more. This new benefit is being introduced in stages and will only affect newly unemployed people in specific areas. But we advise you to start claiming now as you may have to wait several weeks before your receive your first payment.
- Child Benefit:
You probably already aware that for each child you’re responsible for, regardless whether you are working, you can claim Child Benefit for each child under 16. Do you know that a family with two children can claim around £1,800 a year in Child Benefit, as you can imagine this can give you a boost in your overall family budget. The exception being if you earn more than £50k, then you’re unfortunately ineligible for this benefit.
