As the flowers begin to bloom and the days grow longer, our holiday club has been buzzing with energy, creativity, and a focus on character building. At Redbrick Academy, we use the holiday periods as a unique opportunity for students to engage in hands-on activities that foster empathy and social responsibility.
A Season of Giving: Charity and Good Deeds Projects
One of the highlights this break has been our “Community Kindness” initiative. Our young members have been busy designing and decorating their own “Good Deed Boxes” and charity collection points.
This project is a practical lesson in citizenship. By setting personal goals for daily acts of kindness, whether it’s helping a neighbour or supporting a local cause, our students are learning that small, consistent actions have a positive impact on the community.
Broadening Horizons: Spring Activities and Cultural Awareness
In line with our commitment to providing a well-rounded education, we used the spring break to discuss the various traditions and seasonal changes occurring at this time of year.
We also believe it is important for our students to be informed about the diverse society they are a part of. During our sessions, we took the opportunity to learn about the history and customs associated with Easter. By discussing these traditions, our students gain a broader perspective of the different cultures and observances that make up our local community, fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding.
Wisdom from History: Lessons in Character
Storytelling is a core part of our holiday curriculum. This week, we’ve been exploring the lives of historical figures and prophets, focusing on the universal values they represent. By sharing these narratives, we help students identify qualities they can emulate in their own lives, such as:
- Patience: How to remain calm and determined when facing challenges.
- Integrity: The importance of being truthful and fair in their schoolwork and friendships.
- Compassion: Understanding the value of looking out for those in need.
A Safe and Enriching Space:
Whether through community service projects or interactive history lessons, our goal is to provide an inclusive space where children feel confident and curious. We are proud of the maturity our students have shown this spring as they develop the social and emotional skills needed to be successful, thoughtful members of society.
